Dr. DeBoard is a heart surgeon in Hamilton New Zealand. He completed medical school at the University of Washington in Seattle. He then followed with a residency in general surgery at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in California. During residency he developed a great appreciation for the complexity of cardiac surgery and the profound benefits it yields to patients. Dr. DeBoard then completed an advanced fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at the University of Utah. 

He has special training and career focus in minimally invasive cardiac surgery, atrial fibrillation, hybrid ablation, total arterial revascularisation, surgical ablation (MAZE procedure) and left atrial appendage ligation (AtriClip). Dr. DeBoard is recognised as a leading surgeon in heart rhythm surgery throughout the region.

Dr. DeBoard maintains an academic component to his practice and is the lead investigator on multiple research studies. He has presented at major numerous international conferences and is published in multiple medical journals. Dr. DeBoard remains active in surgical education and many professional societies.

Dr. DeBoard is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and board certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery (ABTS). He is vocationally registered in New Zealand.
